BADMINTON FINLAND’S COMPETITION SYSTEM

All member clubs of Badminton Finland (SSuL) can organize SSuL-sanctioned competitions. Competitions are awarded (or rejected) based on applications. Competitions for the Open class, as well as skill level classes V, A, B, and C, are divided into three levels:

Premier Elite: The non-championship competition with the highest ranking point value for all skill levels. The event must meet the criteria set for Premier Elite competitions as closely as possible, which serves as one of the allocation criteria for future events. Age categories may also be played on a limited basis.

Elite: The non-championship competition with the second-highest ranking point value for all skill levels. The event must meet the criteria set for Elite competitions as closely as possible, which serves as one of the allocation criteria for future events. Age categories may also be played on a limited basis.

National: The non-championship competition with the third-highest ranking point value for all skill and age categories. Multiple competitions may be held on the same weekend, with no restrictions on organizing them. The defined criteria are used as one of the allocation basis for future events.

In addition:

Junior Elite: The non-championship competition with the highest ranking point value for junior players.

Senior Elite: The non-championship competition with the highest ranking point value for senior players.

National Low-Threshold Junior Competitions: The non-championship competition with the second-highest ranking point value for junior players.

Championship Competitions

Finnish Championships (SM): Restricted entry for the top players in the country according to competition rules. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

Youth Finnish Championships (Nuorten SM): Finnish Championships for the U19 age category. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

Senior Finnish Championships (Senioreiden SM): Finnish Championships for age categories 35+ to 80+. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

U17 and U15 Finnish Championships (U17 ja U15 SM): Finnish Championships for the specified age categories. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

Class Championships (Luokkamestaruus): Championships for skill level classes A, B, and C. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

Age Category Championships (Ikäluokkamestaruus): Championships for age categories U9–U13. Participation rights are limited by the Competition Rules.

League Competitions

Team Finnish Championships (Joukkue-SM): Finnish Championship for club teams.

1st Division (I-divisioona): Qualification competition for the Team Finnish Championships.

Low-Threshold Team Competitions: Club team competitions organized locally by clubs.

Recreational Competitions (Not sanctioned by Badminton Finland)

Competitions organized by clubs and communities that do not require a license and do not award ranking points. Participation rights are entirely at the discretion of the organizer. For the time being, the use of BTP (at own expense) and TSW as publishing platforms is allowed.
